Marina is Back with Fear and Loathing

I have blogged about Marina and the Diamonds before, she is one of my favorites. I love her voice and her music is unique, different from the pop you hear on the radio 24-7. Seeing her live was quite the show, and today she has a new video and song: “Fear and Loathing”. Love it!

So, Really… How Much Do Artists Make Online?

With Spotify becoming available in the US, a question that I always had and had become dormant came to live again. How can artists profit from streaming services? Do they see a bump in their sales from people that after streaming their music want to own it? It boggles my mind, it’s understandable that physical CD’s have lost a little bit of steam to digital albums. But that is sales, it makes sense since having the physical production of a disc is taken out of the equation. But the question is, do artists profit for their music being streamed in services like Spotify, Rdio, Pandora, Grooveshark and others.

Yesterday, I finally found some answers to my question. The Information is Beautiful site, has an great visual graph that gives us a glimpse of what goes behind the scenes on the matter at hand. I am still studying the graph, I find it interesting that the amount artists get for streaming is so low. But, on the other hand, we can approach this differently. For decades people heard about artists on the radio, they would call radio stations with their requests. Is it really that different to stream someone’s music? The problem with this is that if people are able to stream the music as many times as they want, an album sale is out of the equation.

I believe there have been several events that have drastically changed the face of music. MTV gave a face to what people were listening to. YouTube allowed people to see that face on demand, at anytime, from anywhere. MP3 players, especially the iPod forever changed the way people listened to music.

But, the question remains, how will streaming services change the face of music? With big-hitters like Apple, Amazon and Google getting on the streaming game, there is certainly a great amount of change coming.

What do you think is the future of the music business? How do YOU listen to music and how have your listening habits changed through the years?

Funny Lady Melissa McCarthy to Host SNL

One of my favorite funny ladies at the moment , Melissa McCarthy, will be hosting Saturday Night Live when they come back for their 37th season. You may remember Melissa as one of the ladies on the summer box office hit Bridesmaids. Regarding Melissa, I started watching Samanta Who? on Netflix last week and was surprised to see her there as well. She was just nominated for an Emmy for her role on CBS’s comedy ‘Mike & Molly.

The 37th season of SNL premieres on the fall with Alec Baldwin as a host. Baldwin will break Steve Martin’s record hosting the show for 16 times.

Are you looking forward to see Melissa on SNL?

Lady Gaga Sings Her New Single On The View

This morning Lady Gaga was on co-hosting The View and also performing her current single as well as her new single, Yoü and I.

I love Lady Gaga as an artist and her outlandish antics but what I like the most is when she just sits on the piano and just rocks a song. Watch her performance of Yoü and I below with matching outfit, glasses, hat and piano.

First Photos of Bane on The Dark Knight Rises

The first photos of  Tom Hardy as Bane on The Dark Knight Rises have hit the interwebz. And well, they just tease us even more on wanting to watch what it is all about. Tom Hardy looks like he is 7 feet tall and very menacing. I am pretty sure that it will look even more menacing in the movie, since the photos don’t look too grim.

What do you think?

Watch Rebecca Black’s New Music Video… If You Dare!

It was bound to happen. Even if millions of people just watched her Friday music video to mock her, the video still garnered her the world’s attention. Now, Rebecca Black is back. I have to say, I can’t even utter the word Friday without repeating it a couple of times and finishing the sentence with “We we we so excited, we so excited”. I still wonder what will happen with Rebecca Black. Katy Perry helped her achieve a 16th minute of fame having her star on her video for Last Friday Night, and she looked adorable.

So, in hopes of having a 17th minute of fame, Rebecca has released her first single after being a world known “star”. The song sounds more auto-tuned and processed than Friday and she looks prettier more polished. Watch the video below!

What do you think? Is this the last we will hear of Rebecca Black?

Watch This: Adele Before She Was Big

Let me start by saying: If you haven’t heard of Adele you must be living under a rock. When I think of female singers I love, Adele is way up there at the top. Making her company at the top of my list are Regina Spektor and Florence Welch. Yes, I love Lady Gaga, but even though I love her as an artist and think she’s a great singer, as a “voice” she is not at the top of my list. Adele and the other two I mentioned have something, something that when the question of “If you could only listen to one artist for the rest of your life, who would it be” pops up their names comes screaming inside of me. I still remember the first time I listened to Adele, and then falling in love with her on the Sarah Palin episode of SNL.

Below you are going to see a different Adele, before she “made it” and you will see clearly why she made it. Many have tried comparing her to Amy Winehouse and Duffy, but even with a similar sound, her songs go deeper, if you allow them to. And if you were wondering, yes, I am mildly obsessed. Her last album, 21, keeps selling like hotcakes and I will not be surprised to see it get a bunch of Grammys, just as her previous one did.

Enjoy this video from the archives, let it sink in…
