One Day Without Twitter
Yesterday I decided to not go into Twitter for 24 hours, I just feel that I spend too much time in it and wanted to see how my day would be without it. So here are some of my observations:
- I realized that I get most of my news through Twitter. This includes by following the Trends and following people that have news according to my interests. It makes it a little harder to go hopping through websites instead of choosing what to read from a Twitter feed.
- I got a cool new haircut today and was very tempted to show it off on Twitter. So I guess I also use Twitter for trivial things.
- I miss some of the people I interact with on Twitter.
- Not only I use Twitter for news but also for information, today I had questions on a car and missed not being able to seek the expertise of others on Twitter.
- I cannot help to think that I’m missing something or that someone may be waiting for a response from me.
- The first thing I do when I wake up, while still in my bed, is to check Twitter on my iPhone, kinda missed it today.
- During the day, when I unlock my iPhone my finger goes directly to Tweetie, several times today I almost opened Tweetie today by force of habit.
- On a different note, I feel good, I kinda feel like this has been a cleansing process.
- I have noticed how after using Twitter for a while your mindset can change, things that would be normal can somehow become tweet-worthy, several times today I wanted to tweet things that were happening and couldn’t. I wonder if I need some editing on my Tweeting. Maybe cut back a little.
- I miss Twitter’s flow. Facebook can sometimes be stagnant with not many updates happening, on twitter there’s always someone writing, always something going on and I love that.
In conclusion, I am addicted. Most of the day I’ve been thinking about Twitter, what to post, what others may have posted, what I may have missed. I think it is safe to say that I need to do this more often, cut my dependency and… get a life outside of Twitter, without the urge of sharing everything with everyone.
